Is Your Dog’s Gut the Missing Piece? What Frequency Scanning Reveals That Other Tests Don’t

Think about the last time your dog was at the vet. Perhaps it was for an upset stomach, a skin flare-up, recurrent ear infections, low energy, or just a general sense that something wasn’t quite right. The examination was thorough. Blood work may have been run. A prescription was written. And yet here you are, still wondering why your dog doesn’t seem to fully bounce back.
The answer, in a surprisingly large number of cases, begins in the gut - and in the conditions that have quietly damaged it long before symptoms became visible.
Three Hidden Causes of Leaky Gut Nobody Is Talking About
Intestinal permeability - leaky gut - occurs when the gut wall’s tight junctions become compromised, allowing bacterial toxins, partially digested proteins, and fungal metabolites to cross into the bloodstream. The immune system recognises these as foreign invaders and mounts a response that can manifest anywhere in the body: skin, joints, brain, behaviour. A 2025 study in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine confirmed that increased intestinal permeability is detectable in dogs before any clinical signs appear. But what is causing that damage?
Three causes that rarely feature in a standard veterinary consultation:
Glyphosate in Kibble
Glyphosate - the world’s most widely used herbicide - is present in virtually every grain-based commercial dog food. Testing has found levels in standard kibble running at roughly 400 times those measured in raw meat-based meals. A 2024 systematic review published in Food and Function (RSC Publishing) concluded that glyphosate and its formulations induce intestinal dysbiosis, alter bacterial metabolism, increase intestinal permeability, disrupt mucus secretion, and cause direct damage to microvilli and the intestinal lumen. Glyphosate also functions as an antibiotic, selectively reducing beneficial bacterial species including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium while allowing opportunistic pathogens like Clostridium to proliferate. Every bowl of standard kibble is, in effect, delivering a small but cumulative dose of gut-disrupting chemistry.
Veterinary Medications and the Gut Wall
Many of the most commonly prescribed veterinary medications carry a documented risk of gastrointestinal mucosal damage that is not always communicated to pet owners. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - among the most frequently dispensed drugs in veterinary practice - cause gut wall damage through two mechanisms: direct topical irritation of the mucosal lining, and inhibition of the COX-1 pathway (a natural enzyme system) that produces prostaglandins (hormone-like compounds that maintain and repair the stomachs protective lining) essential for gastro-protection (keeping the gut wall intact and defended). A 2025 study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association found endoscopic evidence of gastrointestinal ulceration in ten out of twelve dogs receiving chronic COX-2 selective NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) at appropriate therapeutic doses. Corticosteroids carry an equivalent risk, with healthy dogs receiving them shown to be seven to eleven times more likely to have significant endoscopic gut lesions than controls. Repeated courses of antibiotics meanwhile destroy the microbial diversity that underpins gut wall integrity, leaving the terrain open to opportunistic overgrowth.
Anxiety, Cortisol, and the Mucosal Lining
Chronically elevated cortisol - the stress hormone - directly degrades the mucous layer lining the stomach and intestines. You see the stress hormone cortisol disrupts the ‘tight junction proteins’ (think of these like little gates that let digested molecules in and out of the body) holding gut wall cells together, thins the protective mucous barrier that shields the lining from digestive acid, and impairs stem cell renewal in the intestinal cells or crypts. Research published in Scientific Reports confirmed that acute stress significantly alters canine gut microbiota composition. For dogs living with separation anxiety, fear-based reactivity, or chronic environmental stress, this means their gut is under sustained chemical assault every single day - entirely independent of what they are eating or what medications they are receiving.
Looking Under the Hood: What Pure Harmonics Technologies Reveal
Every living organism emits its own unique electromagnetic frequency. Candida albicans, Aspergillus, Mucor, Penicillium, Trichophyton rubrum (ringworm - common in New Zealand), Microsporum canis, and Cryptococcus neoformans. Fungal overgrowth flourishes in the wake of antibiotics, steroids, and carbohydrate-heavy diets. Mycotoxins produced by these organisms compound gut wall damage and systemic inflammation.
Bacteria
Clostridium species, Helicobacter, opportunistic E. coli variants, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and Klebsiella. Frequency scanning can identify which bacterial resonances are actively disruptive - without invasive sampling or the delays of laboratory culture.
Parasites
Subclinical parasitic load is one of the most underappreciated drivers of chronic gut and immune dysfunction. Organisms I regularly detect include Ancylostoma, Strongyloides, and Trichomonas - present well below the threshold of standard veterinary screening but exerting a constant drain on the immune system and contributing to gut wall damage.
One organism worth particular attention is Trichomonas cutaneum. Frequently missed in veterinary screenings, it can drive severe and relentless itching - often resulting in secondary hair loss and open sores from constant scratching. Many dogs with this presentation have been through multiple courses of treatment for allergies or bacterial skin infection without resolution, because the underlying trichomonas organism has never been identified. Frequency scanning detects it; targeted counter-frequency therapy addresses it.
Secondary Dysbiosis: When the Treatment Becomes Part of the Problem
Secondary dysbiosis is what happens when the treatment of one condition creates the conditions for another. When a dog receives a course of antibiotics for a skin or gut infection, the antibiotic does not discriminate - it eliminates beneficial bacteria alongside the target pathogen. The result is a gut microbiome that is impoverished, structurally weakened, and wide open to opportunistic colonisation by resistant organisms: antibiotic-resistant bacteria, fungal species that were previously kept in check by healthy bacterial competition, and parasitic organisms that exploit the reduced immune surveillance.
Research published in Frontiers in Pharmacology documents this cascade in detail: NSAID-induced mucosal damage increases intestinal permeability, allowing gastro-intestinal tract substances - bile, digestive enzymes, and commensal bacteria (instead of just their beneficial postbiotic substances) - to penetrate the gut wall, triggering inflammation that requires further treatment, which causes further dysbiosis. Each intervention, entirely appropriate in isolation, nudges the terrain further from balance. Over months and years of repeated treatment cycles, the result can be a gut environment that is profoundly compromised, chronically inflamed, and harbouring a complex of resistant and opportunistic organisms that are increasingly difficult to shift through conventional means alone.
This is not a criticism of veterinary care - it is a description of a systemic challenge that integrative medicine is uniquely positioned to address.
